World Photography Day

It's World Photography Day (19 August) and also World Photography Week.

Enjoy this wander through my digital lens as I give you an insight into my life through my eyes.

I have thousands of photos so it's not easy to choose. (13,737 to be precise -- and that's just the ones I have decided to keep!).

These are a selection from around the area I live.

There's no colour manipulation in any of these images. They are all as I saw them.

In case it is not obvious, I own the copyright to all of these images. Do not use, manipulate, or otherwise copy, without my express permission!

Sunset

Firstly, one of the first photos I took and was really proud of. I guessed it was going to be a good sunset so I drove into the hills in the middle of nowhere and waited. I was not disappointed.

I did however get completely mauled by flying insects. Stupidly I also left the car door open, which meant the car was also infested.

Messing around on the water

Next, a boat trip with friends. We decided we would go across to a deserted sandy bay the next day, just along from the village where I live, by the sea. When myself and my other-half turned up at our friend's house I was surprised (and excited) to be given a little boat and told I was taking the two of us in one boat, and they would go in another.

Having never used an out-board motor before I was proud that I managed to take it out onto the sea and along the coast. We had a lovely time that afternoon, but then had to get back before the tide turned and we could not get home -- we made it! We live at the foot of the hill in the distance.

I love a picnic

Another adventure, another time. We have an island we can walk out to when the tide is low. There's nothing on the island -- just rocks, grass, and a view. If you time it correctly you get about 6 hours. That's 45 minutes to walk out to it. A few hours to enjoy, and 45 minute back before you are cut off for 10 hours.

We've done it several time and are always aware of the tides. Sadly tourists are not so clever and occasionally get cut off. Locals generally come to their rescue and get a wee boat out to stranded tourists.

On one of our visits we took a picnic over to the island. Champagne and home-made sushi. Yum.

Bird of Prey

I felt lucky to take this next one. I was in the right place at the right time. A sparrowhawk sat majestically on my stone wall in the garden. He was very curious as to what I was doing.

Tree of Life

While walking around a park I spotted this tree. A beautiful art installation. It touched my heart. Each leaf commemorates a local family's loss of a child who sadly never made it into the world.

Red Squirrel

I take lots of photos of red squirrels in our garden. This is one of my favourites.

Flowers

And finally, a photo of some poppies bursting into bloom in my garden. The petals are so fine and lace-like.
