Shape Shifting Duvet Covers
I think I might have said on record at some point in the past that I find the task of changing a duvet cover quite challenging.
I consider myself to be of reasonable intelligence and have ample common sense, but I can't deal with a duvet change over!
But let's start earlier in the journey. I am not sure what wizardry goes on in the washing machine, but without fail at the end of the cycle, the duvet cover has turned inside-out. During the constant churning the buttons are magically undone and it turns on itself. That should be the first clue that a duvet cover is the work of the devil.
I would often approach the selection of 'which cover to put on the bed' with some apprehension as I knew it's going to end in some sweary-words and ill-feeling.
Despite my best efforts at assessing the layout of the task by placing the duvet on the bed, and the cover on top for a dry run, when it comes to inserting the duvet in this massive cover I always end up with it the wrong way. Duvets are generally slightly rectangular and somehow I get the long end of one at the short side of the other. There then follows some expletives; I sometimes take a moment away from the train-wreck bedding, and return with a new spin-the-duvet attitude.
I do however have a solution -- get someone else to do it!
My other half has few dedicated chores in the house, but the agreement is that I will never place a fresh duvet cover on the bedding. It works for us. haha
Imagine my shock when I caught Dave's guide on How to fold a fitted sheet, via Ruben's hand-curated list of Blaugust 2025 Favorites.
Much as I enjoyed Dave's hysterical illustrations and running commentary, I feel comfortable with my own 'roll it up in a ball' method for fitted sheets. Confident I could never master his next-level skill set.
So there you have it -- one of my flaws exposed for all to read.
Side note
Do American's call it a duvet cover? You know how they like to be creative with the English language. Maybe they don't even know what the hell I am on about in this post?
Here's my definition:
A duvet cover is a giant fabric pocket to cover a large, soft, flat bag filled with feathers or artificial material used as a covering on a bed.
Ok, now I have insulted my American chums, I am off to prepare aubergines and courgettes in a frying pan! ("cook eggplants and zucchinis in a skillet" is I think what they say) 🤣
