My sleep routine

Sleep patterns fascinate me. Everyone has their own routine to suit their own lifestyle.

Some need a lot of sleep; others a little; some are early birds, up at the crack of dawn; others rise later in the day.

Here's my routine...

Firstly, as background, I'm generally a night person rather than mornings. Don't get me wrong, if I need to be up and about early in the morning for a purpose, I have no problem. However, on a typical day I am a lazy morning riser, but I can work long into the night if needed.

Working for myself, I mostly control my days -- there are exceptions. Today I had a meeting at 10am, two hours drive away, so I was up much earlier than usual, at 7am.

That aside, I generally wake around 8am. I then spend time reading the internet to see what has happened over night -- news and blogs, etc. I get up around 9:30am, shower, dress, and check emails.

Interestingly, I don't give much thought to breakfast, or a drink! It can be noon before I have any kind of liquid or food. I am trying to get better and have something to eat and drink after I shower.

The day then does what it does best -- runs at full speed.

In the evening, we eat around 8pm. I might do some more work or faffing online. I rarely watch TV.

Bedtime is usually just after midnight. I have this odd notion that I generally don't go to bed the same day I get up. In bed I will listen to a podcast for an hour or so, then sleep. Luckily slumber comes easy to me.

The routine then repeats in the morning.

Alarm

What I do find interesting, and taking this morning as an example.....If I need to rise earlier than normal, I don't need an alarm clock. If I 'say to my self' I need to be up at 7am, I will wake up on-time. Even if I am getting up at 4am for a flight, same thing. I just need to make a mental note and I will wake up ontime.

What's your routine?
