My obvious is another person's revelation
Occasionally in life we come across something that is so obvious that we assume everyone does it, yet we realise it's not the norm.
I was working on a project last week and explained to a colleague a technique I utilise; he was literally bewildered. After a moment, he realised how easy yet practical it was.
Now that you are intrigued, what am I talking about?
It's all in the Dot.
I had the need to produce an on-screen slide presentation for a talk I was delivering. I was to be assisted by a colleague, who would be producing props on stage at the appropriate moment.
During our rehearsal I explained my timings, and technique to ensure I did not get carried away with the clicker. You know how it is: you have some text appearing in a controlled manner; maybe some bullet points to discuss. You pray to the presentation Gods you don't over-click in eagerness and advance to the next slide in haste.
My technique
I place a little dot at the bottom right of the slide; it appears when the final animation is onscreen. This is my visual clue that my next click will change the slide entirely.
I have been doing this for years. I assumed it was common-place. Apparently not.
After explaining the technique, and observing my associate process this brand-new information, he proclaimed it was an inspired idea.
Free for all
There you go my readership. I gift you this approach for future use. Do with it what you wish.
