The final post of #blaugust

Well dear friends, and friends I have yet to meet, today is the last day of August — which means it is also the final day of the blogging challenge #blaugust.

The aim was to encourage participants to blog more often, and if possible every day in August. Well, I did it. 31 days, 31 posts. I blog often these days, so it was not a great inconvenience but it did motivate me to post every day without fail.

You've had 31 word-packed-days of ramblings from me.

What did I get out of it?

Mostly, I discovered lots of other blogs via their participation in the challenge. Using the hashtag helped me find content on social media. I also found a list of participating sites and added them all to my RSS reader. Initially I had 150 extra sites, but I did drop some off as the month progressed.

It also encouraged more interaction. I generally want to interact with you and your blog (as per my article in June: I want to comment on your blog). While I couldn't comment directly on many blogs, I did make the effort to have off-line email chats and interaction. I was delighted more people took time to contact me too. I'm always interested in other points of view.

I learned new things throughout the month, and met some great bloggers. I don't plan to list their blogs; I worry I would miss some and offend people I had unintentionally omitted. I did link to several during the month as I wrote reply posts or articles.

Did it go as I expected?

On the whole, yes. However, I was disappointed there was no central coordination. Bloggers were encouraged to sign up to the challenge. Since then I've heard nothing.

There was a suggestion about badges when you reached milestones, but I'm not sure how that worked. Apparently, I am a "Diamond Rainbow" as I blogged every day. Is there a cake? Card? Plaque? haha

I expected more of a community feel. Maybe I missed the party? It will not be the first time. Anyway, it didn't hold me back — just seems like a missed community opportunity.
