Farewell Telegram
I guess the writing was on the door, but the time has come for me to ditch the Telegram messaging app once and for all.
Pavel Durov sometimes controversial CEO of Telegram posted on X:
Telegram and xAI have agreed to a 1-year partnership to distribute Grok to Telegram’s billion+ users and integrate it into its apps. Telegram will receive $300M in cash and equity from xAI, plus 50% of revenue from xAI subscriptions sold via Telegram. Together, we win! ❤️📈🏆
So there you have it, all the effluent in two sentences.
I want nothing to do with Musk, X, or xAi. I neither trust them, or their ethics (or lack thereof).
The alternatives
I've looked at so many. However, they all seem obsessed with secrecy; privacy; encryption; anti-government; snooping. Honestly, I am doing nothing illegal, but if any government wants to look at my tedious chatter with my friends, go for it.
Too many of the chat apps make it awkward/near impossible to find friends, or them find you. I want to give my friends an ID to find me. I don't need to provide them with a secret 48 digit code, or a temporary link, or QR code. I need something I can communicate quickly and effectively in a social situation. You know, at the local bar, shouting "my id is..." over a busy table.
Signal, I guess
I've tried to coax as many of my friends away from WhatsApp but they seem happy to stay were the sheep are hearding. For my more informed and educated chums, I will be on Signal for now. There is something I don't like about Signal, but I just can't put my finger on what it is. For now, its the only real alternative.
I'm daj.01
on Signal if you are ever in the mood for crap-chat.
