My Default Apps, mid-2025
At the start of the year, I listed my defaults apps -- mostly as a record for myself to see where my ever-changing journey takes me.
I like to explore new things; testing, switching, ditching!
Six Months on.
Here's what has changed from the original list. Surprisingly the changes have been few!
Changes in Bold, and only listing categories with a change.
💻 Desktop OS: Windows 11 for work & Linux Mint personally.
Ditched: KDE Neon Linux. Two separate upgrades completely flatlined my setup, so I gave up.
💬 Chat: Whatsapp, Signal.
Ditched: Telegram. I'd love to drop Whatsapp but I need a new family! I only have two people on Signal. lol
📝 Notes: UpNote.
Ditched: Joplin. I dabbled in Obsidian as so many people trumpet about it. I found it too distracting. I use my note taking app a lot, for personal and work -- I just want to type. I don't need bells, whistles, add-ons.
🔎 Search: Kagi
Ditched: Duck-Duck-Go and now full-time Kagi
🧑💻 Code Editor: VSCodium
Ditched: Visual Studio Code for VSCodium as it's a community version of Microsoft's VSCode, but with all the tracking telemetry removed.
